Brasileiro Side Santos President To Terminate Club's Deal With Umbro

Brasileiro side Santos President José Carlos Peres will terminate the club's partnership with U.K. sportswear manufacturer Umbro, citing the "ridiculous" terms agreed by the team's previous regime, according to SPORTS SPONSORSHIP INSIDER. Umbro partnered with the club in October. The terms of the deal, which will begin in March, were not disclosed, but it was reported at the time that the agreement would earn the club R$2.5M ($755,000) per season across '18 and '19. Santos' previous agreement with Italian sportswear brand Kappa reportedly earned the club R$4M per year. Peres said that he is "prepared to end the Umbro partnership before it has begun," and claimed that his predecessor, Modesto Roma, did not have the authority to sign the deal "so close to a presidential election." German brand Puma is reportedly "in the frame" to replace Umbro (SPORTS SPONSORSHIP INSIDER, 12/22).
