G2 Esports partnered with Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso to "create a new esports racing team," according to Angelos Anastasopolous of THE ESPORTS OBSERVER. With FA Racing G2 Logitech G, Alonso will become the first F1 racer to "ever connect his brand name to esports." G2's logo is the mask of a samurai, and Alonso "has been vocal throughout his career regarding his fascination with samurai philosophy." G2 Esports on Nov. 16 signed a global agreement with Logitech G. It "has already been successful in sim racing." The organization’s recent winner of the World’s Fastest Gamer Series, Rudy van Buren, signed a professional contract with McLaren as a sim test driver. Alonso: "Every Formula 1 driver is a gamer at heart. Competing on the virtual stage opens a vast amount of possibilities for young drivers that wouldn't otherwise have a chance to get into racing" (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 11/23). REUTERS' Alan Baldwin reported the team "will participate across a variety of games, console and PC platforms, as well as all current competitions" (REUTERS, 11/23).
